The End of Blogspot?

Friday 15 February 2008 @ 7:00 pm

Like it or not, Blogspot or Blogger is the common platform for alot of Spam Blogs or SPLOGS as they deem it and with the Malaysian General Election just days away, there has been alot of speculation, criticism among alot of independent and related Parties.

One off note is that I got a small buzz from someone in charge of Network Management and Control at the Government side and one particularly was that the suppression of Information and Censorship of Content by means of keywords and also domain names. One thing does stick out : BLOGSPOT.

I mean how on earth can you block the entire operandi of Google? With the Nameservers based in the US itself, they really mean that you have to block Google in itself. How could you do that?! It’s like putting the Great Fire Wall of Malaysia… which just sounds like the way Singapore is separated off, by a small Straits.

So, what does it mean to the Blogger who is trying to make money by means of BLOGSPOT?
Well, you will eventually get slower packet transfers and means they will be throttling the bandwidth to those sites. Means that your ads and script will slowly load.

What can you do? One is that to have your own domain, and two import everything from your old blog to the new blog, and wordpress does it well!

How much? Domains are as low as $1.99 for some TLD plus hosting fees. I am a domain registrar and reseller myself and many of them opt to pay a nominal setup fee for the basic blog with next to no limit on the bandwidth. More info will be at my Domains Service.

How does this affect you and what do you have to gain? Mainly the Page Rank will be worth more on your own domain and you have full control over what you want in there. You can even install galleries and subdomains to befit each theme or concept you focus on, but make sure that you don’t get too side track otherwise if your blog sucks.. you bear no traffic which literally means no money!

What does it mean to me…in monetary terms is that you can do link selling or advertising campaigns. Advertisers pay as low as $1 per day for your skyscraper a day to the unethical Sponsored Link Advertorials which can be as low as $100 for a PR 4 site *(I have one which is quite dormant…so let me know if you want free mention…terms apply ah) to as much as $2500 a review for some heavy traffic ones like XBRAIN and the cronies.

So, just be prepared to be blocked off with Blogspot.. but before that, get yourself ready and avoid the rush.

Good luck!

Title - Postname format

Thursday 1 March 2007 @ 9:05 pm

I was working on the Walkabouts of a Singaporean in Europe when an idea struck me, why not have the POST NAME or PAGE NAME up on the title.
Surely someone must have thought of that…

so eventually, I have to RECODE the Header.php to look something like this:
< !– if this is Home Page — >
< title >< ?php bloginfo(’name’); ? >< /title >
< meta name=”Title” content=”< ?php bloginfo(’name’); ? >” / >
< link rel=”alternate” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”RSS 2.0″ href=”< ?php bloginfo(’rss2_url’); ? >” / >
< link rel=”alternate” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”Comments RSS 2.0″ href=”" / >
< link rel=”alternate” type=”text/xml” title=”RSS 0.92″ href=”< ?php bloginfo(’rss_url’); ? >” / >
< link rel=”alternate” type=”application/atom+xml” title=”Atom 0.3″ href=”< ?php bloginfo(’atom_url’); ?>” / >
< link rel=”pingback” href=”< ?php bloginfo(’pingback_url’); ? >” / >
< ?php } ?>

< !– Mod the above to see if title shows the blogname :: Title of Post –>

And when its not HOME PAGE, we don’t need the rSS crap.

< ?php if (is_page()); { ?>

< meta name=”Title” content=”< ?php bloginfo(’name’); ? > - < ?php the_title();? >” / >
< title>< ?php bloginfo(’name’); ? > : < ?php the_title(); ? >< /title >
< ?php }?>

Remember to save your header.php and upload back.

I’m rating this Level 2 Techie as it does not need much modification.

Affiliate Program Options

Sunday 4 February 2007 @ 1:59 pm

So with you site up and running, what options do you have to incorporate your income?
You can install the most common of them all, Google Adsense. Google adsense pays ALOT. Heck of alot of money if you know how to game it on. It will cost you a few thousands of dollars to learn how to do it and I will not condone such a scam. On average, you get nearly PEANUTS for that. So in a few mths and even in a year, you can’t touch $100!Especially if you are starting out.

So what other options? Adbrite uses a technology called TERRESTRIAL ADS which will come up as if it’s part of the page,just like a frameset, and allowing you as the visitor to scroll and visit thru the advertiser’s page. The advertiser gets his landing page under the bottom 600px high window. Some offer rubbish money and like me, I pick and choose, and as much as $500 CPM or click-views per miilenium (thousand).

Bidvertiser is another option, and so far, for past 1yr, I only gained $5 from my wife’s Cooking Pages and my BBS Community Photopages. It’s BAD. But it’s cheap to advertise on.

Some of these programs show image ads instead of text links, so look for them. It’s dermographically set for the US mainly. So if you have great US visitors, then you are in for the kill. Or buy them in. That I will cover in another stage.

Choosing your Webhost

Thursday 23 November 2006 @ 12:03 am

Choosing a webhost is not easy. Not as simple as going to your local Wal-Mart or something like that. You must choose what you want to do with things.

Basic neccessity:
Are you going to take up alot of pictures loaded in?
Are you in the US, EU, Asia as some places have problems accessing certain ISPs connected to some backbones like cognito or even AT&T.
Who and where are your friends and readers?

Word Press Blog takes about 5 MegaBytes of installation space. Some ISPs have these PRE-INSTALLED, ie Prepacked for you to install at one click. They are in Fantastico Control Panels.

Ask yourself what bandwidth are you going to use up, and what is your budget?
Hosting Providers like Gator start at $6.95 if you prepay a year, or Powweb at $7.77 $5.77, with Powweb giving a free Domain of your choice. Ask me for the special coupon code for extra subsidy/rebates/freebies/discounts.
I’m a volume customer.

Gator allows unlimited Domains for their BABY package at $9.95mth, with 100GB and almost a terabyte of bandwidth. That’s alot. With Powweb, its 300GB now and 3 TB, BUT and I emphasise a BIG BUTT, is that you are on no-frills shared hosting with load balancing cluster! At times customers in the EU can’t get thru during weekends. Also, in order to utilise the UNLIMITED DOMAIN, you must be Geeky enough to translate the HTACCESS script so it will redirect properly. Took me 3 mths to absorb all these, and till now I still make mistakes. They have since offered the Dummy Edition of the script so it will auto config, for a fee of course.Good thing is that you can manipulate your DNS so you can run off a Game Server from your own home using your own domain, if so should you be like me.

With gator, it’s all fixed to one server.CPanel does it all. Just add whatever subdomains you need.That’s it.Except for the cost.

I’m not offering other webhosts as a reference cos I’ve had poor experience with their flexibilities. I run a few FORUMs, Photo Galleries and loads of CMS, with shopping carts ..this and that.

I’m able to offer you a CASH rebate up to 3mths of your hosting fees. Contact me directly.
